Firm warns of noisy night work on railway

Sleepless nights may be looming for many St Austell households as Network Rail begins night time work  on the railway line.

The work is part of phase 2 of the railway upgrade scheme - Cornwall Capacity Enabling Scheme (Cornwall B).

The firm is warning residents of Mount Charles and the surrounding area that these essential works to upgrade signalling systems will generate noise as crews work through the night between 10pm and 6am.

The work involves taking a number of samples of the ground. These exploratory locations are spaced approximately 200m to 1,000m apart along the railway, with the railways promising neighbours that the maximum time spent in one location is no more than two nights.
Work commences in the Mount Charles area on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28, and continues until Friday, October 6.

Addressing the impact on neighbours  NR spokesman Emma Hutchins said: “We recognise that construction work on the railway can be disruptive to those living and working nearby.

“The nature of our work often means some disturbance is unavoidable, but please be assured that every effort is made to minimise any unnecessary noise and we have reminded all staff to be considerate to our neighbours and hope this information is helpful and we apologise for any inconvenience these essential works may cause.”

Network Rail has set up a dedicated 24-hour National Helpline on: 03457 11 41 41 or visit: www.networkrail.co.uk/contactus or email: crwest@networkrail.co.uk
