GETTING STUCK IN: East Cornwall Under-14s continued their preparations for the forthcoming season with a friendly against Plymouth Argyle´s Academy

Newquay provided the venue and Plymouth Argyle Academy Under-14s the opposition as East Cornwall Schools continued their preparations for the forthcoming season.

Over 100 boys from the East Cornwall Schools attended Under-14s trials and those successful formed the team to face Argyle at Mount Wise on Wednesday evening.

The game was played in difficult conditions but both sets of talented youngsters applied themselves superbly. Cornwall took the lead after some great work down the left resulted in a cross being sent into the box that deceived the goalkeeper and flew into the net. Argyle equalised in the second period of play and then stepped up to cause the Cornwall boys some real challenges to solve. A couple of errors resulted in Argyle going 3-1 up.

The final third of this development game once again proved to be an even affair as both teams continued to try and play the right way and both teams scored a goal apiece to make the final score 4-2.

East Cornwall manager Alan Yendall said: "Both sets of players were a credit to themselves and thanks must be given to Newquay AFC for being great hosts, to Ray Brown and his team of officials for the evening and to Malcolm Barnecutt Bakery on Chester Road who donated 50 pasties which helped warm up the players after the game and on their journies home.

"East Cornwall Schools FA continues to provide representative football for school players within the area at Under-13, Under-14 and Under-15 level. The set up is run by current school teachers and volunteers and has been one of the most successful districts over many years, with a number of players progressing through to play professionally."
