MISSING MEMORABILIA: This photo shows the Jim Woodham Trophy (to the left of stand) which has since gone missing

ST NEWLYN East Football Club are on the hunt for an historic piece of silverware, missing for decades.

The village club has a long history and celebrates close ties with other local sides.

Some 50 years ago, the club played for the Jim Woodham's Trophy, primarily against neighbours Goonhavern. The trophy was a large and impressive one, that was well worth the highly competitive games it produced across several decades.

It was last on display at The Pheasant Inn some years ago after one of these matches when it mysteriously disappeared and has not been seen since.

The club now wants to try to locate it's whereabouts and is hoping that a Voice reader may recognise it.

A club spokesman said: "This was a quality trophy that has decades of history behind it. We are extremely keen to discover its whereabouts today, so that we can once again compete for it locally.

“As the photos show it has a distinctive look, so we are hoping it may jog a few memories.

“It may be on a mantelpiece, in a display cabinet, or even in a box in a loft or garage. It may possibly have been re-mounted, as often happens with trophies, and reused for a different sport.

“We would appreciate any information that readers could provide."

The above photo shows the trophy which was won in the 1970/71 season by Newlyn East.

If you think you recognise the trophy or might be able to help, the club can be contacted via their secretary Jon Grigg at jongrigg1969@hotmail.co.uk, 07917 431336 or via their Facebook page
