SNOOKER LOOPY:  Leverton Cup winners Newquay Institute A

The season now at an end, cue celebrations for those involved with the Newquay and District Snooker League.

The 2016/17 season was a brilliant one with players having a renewed enthusiasm after the summer break. One of the teams to show how much practice they did throughout the off-season was Minor Social Club, who often finish nearer the bottom of both the League and Handicap. They came agonisingly close to winning the Handicap League this time around, losing out by one point to eventual winners Coaching Inn. However, they kept up the practice and the Minor team won the Whiteways Cup (handicap team competition) for the first time.

Newquay Institute were, as always, brilliant throughout the season, winning both the Open League and the Leverton Cup (team competition) although they didn’t take home as many trophies this season as they often do. Coaching Inn’s Lee James was this year’s Cueman of the Year, winning the Best in Averages trophy, runner up in the Open Singles competition (losing to Eddie Manning) and garnering 29 points towards Cueman of the Year by making a number of breaks over 30.

The whole season was a huge success, with new secretary Daniel Burt taking over before the campaign began, with both Brian Lightfoot and Darryn Veale helping to run the league smoothly and efficiently.

As always, the league is looking for new players and teams to join. If anyone wants to join a team or set up a new one somewhere, feel free to email Dan on dan.snooker.newquay@gmail.co.uk or visit www.newquayanddistrictsnooker.co.uk
