Hornets claim bonus-points win
THE Newquay Hornets extended their unbeaten league record with a bonus point win against a plucky St Agnes team.
Newquay started well enough with an early try from captain Tim Eustice. The trusty boot of Kyle Plummer added the extras for a seven point lead.
However, the final score does not do justice to the amount of possession and territory the visitors enjoyed for long periods of the first-half.
After a string of persistent attacks from St Agnes they were rewarded with their own try on 30 minutes. A failed conversion attempt left the Hornets with a narrow lead which was only added to by a Plummer penalty just before the interval.
With a narrow 10-5 advantage it was time for the Hornets' coaching team to once again earn their corn.
The second-half continued to be an even affair until the last 20 when Newquay's superior fitness and tactical use of impact off the bench saw them run away with the game.
Eustice picked up his brace to kick off the second-half scoring. On his 250th senior appearance the ever dependable Ryan Johns powered over from a quiet tap penalty to keep the scoreboard moving.
The icing was added by a fine brace of tries from in-form centre Dan Bradford.
Plummer added two conversions to complete the scoring and ensure the Hornets maintain top spot in the Tribute Cornwall One League.
