Dog returns lost wedding ring ... eventually!
Martine with wedding ring hero Keef.

A Newquay resident helped a Valentine’s Day dream come true when she returned a lost
wedding ring.

Martine Hawkes was walking Keef the dog on Fistral Beach when she came across the men’s ring in the sand. Hoping to be able to reunite it with the owner, Martine put it on over her glove to keep it safe.

Unfortunately, it took a less direct route back to the owner after Martine gave Keef a treat from her hand and the Jack Russell also managed to eat the ring.

Martine said: “I couldn’t believe it! I fed Keef some sweetcorn when I got home and just kept an eye out for the wedding ring to reappear. In the meantime I put an appeal out online and managed to find the owner who had actually lost it about Christmas time when he was on holiday here from London.

“Keef eventually returned the ring and, after explaining the situation and disinfecting the wedding ring, I was able to post it back to the chap who had lost it. He was shocked and didn’t expect to find it again, so when it arrived in the post on Valentine’s Day he was over the moon and didn’t seem to mind it had been eaten by my dog!”
