Bid to restore headland hut
Residents gather to inspect the historic hut.

COMMUNITY-MINDED residents are looking to refurbish the dilapidated lookout building at Towan Headland.

Interested people, along with tradesmen willing to give up their time, attended a site meeting on Saturday to discuss a way forward. The structure is due to be repainted and the railings enhanched.

Resident Jon Goodman said: “We met to work out a plan of what to do to refurbish it.
“We are going to be pulling on all the community resources over the next few weeks to make sure it gets done once and for all.

“It looks terrible up there and shouldn’t have got to the state it’s in now, so we feel the best approach is to ‘just do it’.

“We have tried contacting everyone we can regards it, but nobody knows who owns it.

“We are working with Cornwall Council and not against them as it is a Grade II listed building that we all want to be restored as best as possible and in the correct way.”

If the group would like to get in touch, I can talk to them about making an application to the Tesco Bags of Help community grant scheme. Alternatively, they can look at www.groundwork.org.uk/Sites/tescocommunityscheme
for the details.
