Huts work before £2.5m hotel built
NEW HUTS: Work is ongoing at Newquay’s Tolcarne Beach before work on a new hotel starts in autumn.

THE iconic beach huts at Tolcarne Beach are undergoing a makeover.
Some 30 huts are being replaced while 20 others are being refurbished ahead of a new £2.5 million hotel and restaurant being built, which is due to get underway in September or October.
The Colonial Hotel and a restaurant will be constructed as part of the Tolcarne Beach Village complex.
The ground floor will contain the new restaurant, kitchen, a reception office and a house manager’s room, and the first floor will feature an 11-room hotel.
The beach cafe and adjoining cottage at Tolcarne Beach will be demolished to make way for the new development.
Nick Briant, from Britannic Industries, which owns Tolcarne Beach, said: “Some huts are being replaced and others refurbished, but gradually they will all be replaced. We are undertaking the work now so we haven’t got so much to do when the hotel is being built.
“We have put some antique stained glass into the new beach huts. I love going around to reclamation yards and I thought it would look really nice. As you walk down the hill now you can see the light coming through the stained glass.”

I have recently rented out one of the brand new beach huts on Tolcarne. Delightful.
The new layout is genius, no one can walk across the front of your hut, and access is via a path at the rear.
Great job, will be renting one again next year, thanks.
