Family overwhelmed at tributes to Connor

Family overwhelmed at tributes to ConnorA Newquay family has been overwhelmed by the support of friends and relatives, in the wake of the unexpected death of a Newquay teenager.
A fund raising party was held at ‘The Shack’ in memory of ex Tretherras student Connor Raines, with the aim of collecting money to erect a bench at Trenance bearing the 17-year-old's name.
Connor was found dead in his bedroom at his Glasgow home, after recently moving from Newquay to the Scottish capital.
Commenting on the fund raising party, Connor's mother Tina Wood said: "It was absolutely brilliant, and a real celebration for Connor.  It was so busy and it was so good to see everyone there."
The family has so far heard nothing as to the cause of Connor's death, but Tina and Connor's father Graham suspect that it could be linked with Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS).
Tina continued: "He was only 17.  He wasn't a drinker.  He wasn't into drugs.
"It's just baffling us, and it could take up to six weeks before we find out any more."
The Shack party, which featured more than a dozen DJs and was dubbed "Play for Connor," raised over £500, via kind donations and an auction for items donated from local businesses.
Tina has several other fundraising schemes planned to raise the further £800 needed for the bench, assisted by family friend Marissa "Missy" Donlan.
Missy will join Tina for a sponsored bike ride along the Camel Trail to Padstow, as well as a raffle later this week with more prizes donated from local businesses, and she is even considering a skydive.
Missy said: "The love and support from everybody has been brilliant.  It's so soon after, but the help really has assisted the healing process."
The next auction will take place at The Shack  on the evening of Saturday, February 20.
To donate money to the fund or to take part in the sponsored bike ride, contact Missy on 07989 468372.
