Newquay celebrated the end of the summer season in spectacular style over the bank holiday weekend with a host of festivals, music and beach events which have put the resort  back on track after a troubled 2009.

Young and old alike relaxed at the Killacourt for several days of music, funfair rides and to see a host of talented locals perform for Cornwall’s Got Talent.

THE organiser of the Newquay Summer Finale has defended his non-profit-making event from complaints about noise levels, saying it’s a positive, family-orientated occasion that appeals to all ages.

Newquay’s town centre manager has admitted that his role in the Newquay Safe Partnership has distanced him from his “core town management functions”.

Delight at new lifeguard HQ

Newquay’s RNLI lifeguards have expressed delight at spending the late summer season protecting Fistral Beach users via a new facility, rather than the “crowded and messy” storage containers of the past.

Work began on the two-storey building in February, with contractor Dyer and Butler making the most of the quiet winter months to lay foundations and construct its shell. The facility was declared operational in early August, in time for Newquay’s major surfing competition, the Boardmasters.
